How I Made NU: Carnival Eiden's Neon Gemstone From UV Resin
Happy Pride month and happy birthday Eiden! Last year I made an updated neon gemstone for my Eiden cosplay, and here is how I did it! Note- this is NOT a tutorial.
SAFETY WARNING: Uncured resin is toxic. Wear a proper respirator (such as one for fumes or ones with P100 cartridges), gloves, and have good ventilation. Don’t look at the UV light with your bare eyes, wear proper glasses or cover up the light. I’m doing it in my basement with windows/doors wide open and wearing a respirator. While the light is curing, I either wear sunglasses or cover up the light.
1. For the front-most outer layer, I mixed in holo taco’s flakie taco into the resin in a mixing bowl and stirred it well. Then I poured it into these silicone molds and cured it.
2. I painted a rainbow of gel polish. The reason why I’m painting the insides now is because my gel polishes are opaque cremes and the UV light won’t be able to penetrate and cure from the outside.
3. I admit… I’m still learning resin so I’m not great at it. I know there’s air bubbles that I should’ve popped, but this isn’t a competition piece so it’ll be fine.
4. I thoroughly sanded down any straggly bits on the edges. Then I also used resin to "glue" all the sides of the gemstone together.
5. Then I cured an o-ring on top. After putting a string through the o-ring, ta da! Neon gemstone is done!
